Leah Mccann, a 15-year Operations Manager for the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine and Chair-elect of the UCSF Staff Assembly, passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2023.
Leah was a staunch advocate of staff. She felt very strongly about ensuring that non-represented staff interests are at the forefront of leadership considerations. She was a very active member of the UCSF Staff Assembly, serving as our CUCSA (Council of University of California Staff Assemblies) delegate from 2020 – 2022, and Chair-elect from 2022-2023.
In her role as CUCSA delegate, she devoted a big part of her time and energy working with her committee which was instrumental in advocating for the 4.5% pay increase for staff for FY 2022-2023. She was passionate about her role as delegate and effectively connected the UCSF Staff Assembly with CUCSA and other UC locations and provided invaluable advice for succeeding delegates.
As the Chair-elect, she spearheaded the 2022-2023 Staff Assembly Scholarship Program and continued her stewardship and support of the monthly UCR Staff Assembly Virtual Bingo at UCSF that provided a fun time for UC staff systemwide to get together.
