A note from our colleagues at the UCSF LGBT Resource Center:
To our UCSF community:
The LGBT Resource Center acknowledges the pain, anger, and fear that is rippling through our queer communities as a result of the mass shooting that occurred in Orlando this weekend. This unimaginable act of violence and hate against our communities has left many of us feeling unsafe and distressed. We want to remind you of the resilience of our communities and our endless power in unity. We want to acknowledge that this act has targeted and murdered so many of our Latina/o/x and Afro-Latina/o/x members of our community. The intersections of race, ethnicity, class, gender, and sexual orientation must be named in order to understand this tragic event.
In the midst of this tragedy, we at UC San Francisco stand with the Orlando community and the loved ones of those impacted by this horrific attack. We extend all of the compassion and love in our hearts to you all. The LGBT Resource Center is dedicated to supporting our entire campus community and will engage in healing dialogues and spaces in the days to come. With the support of UCSF leadership including Chancellor Sam Hawgood, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Dr. Daniel Lowenstein, and Vice Chancellor of Diversity & Outreach Dr. Renée Navarro, we want affirm our commitment to nurturing a culture that is welcoming and supportive of our queer communities. We welcome your voices and presence as we heal as a community.
